Why we recommend it

We visited as a family on a very hot day in the Keys, and this ended up being a really memorable stop. The kids got to see the turtles up close while learning how they’re rescued, treated, and eventually released back into the wild. We especially liked that this isn’t just an attraction — it’s an actual working hospital doing real rehabilitation work. And for the turtles that can’t be released, the hospital becomes their permanent home. It’s educational without feeling like a school field trip, and it’s an easy addition to a day exploring Marathon.

About this place

The Turtle Hospital in Marathon is a working sea turtle rehabilitation facility dedicated to rescuing, treating, and rehabilitating injured sea turtles. Guided educational tours take visitors behind the scenes to learn about the turtles being cared for, the injuries and illnesses they face, and the hospital’s efforts to return them to the ocean. Turtles that cannot safely be released become permanent residents and continue to receive care at the hospital.
