Blowing Rocks Preserve
Hobe Sound, Florida
"A wild stretch of Florida coastline where crashing waves shoot through ancient limestone."

Why we recommend it
This does not feel like a typical Florida beach. The rocky shoreline, sea caves and waves exploding through the limestone make it look like somewhere much farther from home. The kids enjoyed exploring along the rocks and seeing a completely different side of Florida’s coast. Plan your visit around high tide if you want the best chance of seeing the rocks “blow,” arrive early because parking is limited, and bring water shoes—the rocks can be sharp and slippery.
About this place
While staying at Jonathan Dickinson State Park, we took a short drive over to Jupiter Island to explore Blowing Rocks Preserve, and it was absolutely worth the trip! Even the drive was interesting, passing through some of the beautiful neighborhoods and impressive waterfront properties around Jupiter Island, including the area known for celebrity residents like Tiger Woods. The real highlight, though, is the coastline. Unlike the typical sandy Florida beaches, Blowing Rocks features dramatic limestone formations along the Atlantic Ocean. It's a beautiful place to walk, explore, take photos, and enjoy a completely different side of Florida. One thing to know before visiting: parking is limited! The lot is small, so you may have to wait for a space or find a legal parking spot farther away and walk in. Don't let that discourage you. This is one of those stops that's well worth a little extra walking, especially if you're already camping at Jonathan Dickinson State Park or exploring the Jupiter area.
