Sugarloaf Key Jumping Bridge

Sugarloaf Key, Florida

"A free Florida Keys hidden gem that became one of Joey’s favorite places in the world."

Why we recommend it

This is one of Joey’s favorite places in the world, and every time we talk about returning to the Florida Keys, this is one of the first places he wants to go. There’s something about walking out to the old bridge, jumping into that clear Keys water and hanging out along the rocky shoreline that turned a simple afternoon into a core family memory. It’s free, a little off the beaten path and exactly the kind of unexpected place we love finding when we travel.

About this place

The Sugarloaf Key Jumping Bridge is a hidden swimming spot in the Lower Florida Keys, reached by a roughly quarter-mile walk from the road. The old bridge provides access to the tidal water below, with a large rocky shoreline area where you can sit, relax and watch the jumpers. There’s no admission or elaborate attraction here — just a unique, free outdoor stop that feels worlds away from the busier parts of the Keys.
